The Hasselblad H3DII-39 digital back is just awesome!!!! and this back can be used on other large format cameras with proper adapter and firewire power supply.
Someone from slrclub.com was wondering if H3D digital back can be fitted on H2 body and that made me wonder… what if I supply power via Firewire onto the back, it should work!!! So I put that into the test.
So this is the setup – H3DII-39 digital back on H2(H1 upgrade) body! I powered the back with Firewire800 and turn the power on the H2 Body:
The outcome prove that my guess was wrong…. Either H1/H2 body is saying “I am H1/H2” to the back or the back is somehow figuring out that it is attached to H1/H2…
So the last test was to see if the H3DII-39 digital back can operate by itself:
Yeah, it works by itself so if it is attached to large format camera with an adapter and the sync cord, it will operate just fine.
Update 2013/02/04
I was told that actually this can do done if I cover the contacts on the back(or on the body) and use the sync cord and setting the digital back as the “view camera mode”. I should try this out when I get a chance…
I really like Carl Zeiss… I used to own many ZM lenses but I ended up with Biogon 2.8/21 ZM but now I added Distagon 4/18 ZM!!!! Leica Super-Elmar-M 18mm F/3.8 is awesome lens but it cost too much, I mean too much… On the other hand, ZM 18mm is quite reasonable. I only used ZM18 for a few times but I can already say that it will be in my camera bag for a while. I am going to sell my old Voigtlander Heliar 15mm/f4.5M so I can cover some of the cost of this ZM18.
Carl Zeiss knows optics and ZM18 shows just that!!!
It is just an awesome lens. The build quality of the lens itself is superb and the produced image from this lens is just awesome!!!!
Amazing lens!!!
Leica Summar 5cm F/2.0
I first thought that this was an older version of Summicron which is also F/2.0 but it turns out that this is very different than Summicron. It is collapsible, Screw-mount, there is no “stops” in the aperture ring so it runs freely just like focus ring. Either it has no coating or single-coating. This copy has plenty of cleaning marks on the front lens element.
The best part is that I can attach this on a LTM adapter and use it on any M-mount cameras including M7/M8 !!!
As expected, it is weak at flares, smooth contrast yet sharp. It would be very good for B&W shots but I also find that it works just fine on my M8 with color shots.
I am going to keep this one for a while and see how it captures the images for me….
My brother, Paul wanted a Black Leica M7 but he wanted something special. After I have done my Silver M7 with MP A La Carte accents, he decided on a “Reverse Panda” so.. here is how it came out:
I like the all of the functionality of Leica M7 but I like the MP look so I ended up ordering some of the parts and swapped them on my own.
Here is the list of the parts that I was able to order directly from Leica USA:
